Environmental Impact

The aim of this action is to evaluate the influence of operating parameters on the environmental impact of a gazifier. This study includes three steps:

  1. The implementation, at laboratory scale, of a test bench for the gasification of pressed wood chips. Gasification experiments will be performed at different temperatures and with various oxygen and/or steam water composition and total flow rate of the reactive feed gas. At the outlet of the reactor, concentration of gaseous compounds (H2, CO, CO2, NOx and total hydrocarbons) and particles (PM2.5 and Total Suspended Particles) will be measured. The goal of this first working step is to highlight the influence of operating parameters on major pollutant emissions.
  2. The coupling of the gasification reactor with a second reactor containing the catalyst developed by the ICPEES for the removal of tars generated by the gasification of the biomass. This step will allow evaluating the efficiency of the catalyst at laboratory scale in the presence of a real effluents.
  3. The measurement of particles at the outlet of the gasifier installed at the University of Offenburg. The number concentration of PM2.5 and mass concentration of TSP will be determined. These analyses will be carried out upstream and downstream the cyclone present at the outlet of the gasifier and upstream and downstream the catalyst developed by the ICPEES which will be placed downstream of the cyclone.
